Mercedes Benz CLK200 1998. I am excited and nervous at the prospect of owning and driving it. I do have a question the car has a flat emblem on the bonnet is this usual, and no emblem on the front grille?

I assume your question is why?

CLKs do not have a star in the grille for that year. Google images should confirm that for you. Or you can look in the gallery here. You can buy an aftermarket grille if you so wish.

I think it should have a bonnet star but it's a common mod to fit a flat one.

It's easier to maintain a flat bonnet badge than a bonnet star as the latter tends to get torn off.....

good choice of car by the way , ok Bonnet should have a star emblem from new but as
the guys said you can fit the flat type as an option and any thing else you need to know about clk's just ask away

The Bonnet star is one of the major highlights of Mercedes Benz, but its prone to being picked on by others who society could do without, sometimes even little children innocently take an interest in it, lol

I am on my 4th star, but I have never ever thought of replacing it with a flat emblem.

Anyways I hope you enjoy and experience your new purchase.

Where do obtain an authentic star for my car?

Hi,
My appetite for a upright star is suitably whetted! Where do I go to find the real stars? I've had a little look on eBay but am wary. Anything else I should know about the CLK 200 1998? (Nothing too traumatic, this is my first venture into buying what a deem a classic car)

I personally would not have a non genuine MB star, otherwise what is the point.

The site of that star whilst driving is a good feeling.

They are around £37 from MB and ebay prices are very similar for genuine ones.

Perhaps he was leaving them outside, so the scrotes would leave the car alone?

The star really does look mint! I am smitten with it and it will make a lovely Mother's Day present perhaps! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I get the keys to my mercedes on Thursday! It's parked on my drive at the moment while funds transfer. I do gaze longingly at it (him?? Her??) and can't wait to get behind the wheel.
