Hi Guys,

I have purchased an E Class !

Always wanted one, Y plate 2001 - E220 CDI

It seems that I may have purchased a pig in a poke !

Bought it with a years MOT and thought , how much can be wrong with it ?

Apologies if this is the wrong section and if it is perhaps the admin could redirect this to the correct location.

Mechanical -

the car has been leaking fuel overnight from the engine bay ( I have read the forum and presume this could be a pipe cracked or the injectors )

Electrical - malfunction message.

1 - Alternator visit workshop message appears periodically

2- ESP light comes on when turning left, I had checked tyre pressure and had to re inflate the front ones - could that be the problem ?

3- when I turn the lights on I get the bulb - check lamp defective message, but all the lights are working !

4 - cigarette lighter when charging my phone is almost like a trickle charge, takes ages to charge phone

5- Diesel coil light comes on , then car is started and light comes back on.
Once the car heats up after around 10 miles or so the light goes back out.

If you can give me any ideas of how to fix the problems or whether they are related it woud be much appreciated.

You will see if injector leaking, often a rusted fuel pipe.
Electrical - malfunction message.

1 - Alternator visit workshop message appears periodically

Could be the alternator brush pack worn out, not expensive

2- ESP light comes on when turning left, I had checked tyre pressure and had to re inflate the front ones - could that be the problem ?
Possible clock spring or steering not set up correct

3- when I turn the lights on I get the bulb - check lamp defective message, but all the lights are working !
Do check number plate bulb and stop lamp, could be the bulb contacts need cleaning

Too hard to know.

Could be poor soldered connections in the control box
If you can give me any ideas of how to fix the problems or whether they are related it woud be much appreciated.
