Always a wee bit tappy, but try the oil grade change first and run it for a while, something like a 10-40 or 15-40 should be ok. If no better have a good careful look at the cam, if it looks ok then maybe your hydraulic elements need replaced (recommend you do all 8 if you go for this) Not too difficult, and why not renew your valve stem seals while you are at it (can be done without removing the cylinder head)

On consumption, you may do fractionally better. I have the 111 16V engine and return an average of 34 m.p.g. which I consider very reasonable. I would suggest if all else is OK such as tickover speed, no misfires etc., run a bottle of injector/fuel system cleaner through your next couple of tankfuls of fuel, and keep your tyre pressures up to spec.
Be aware the 2 litre engine is smallish to haul such a heavy vehicle and this is where driving style plays such a huge part. Keep a light accelerator foot and use your deceleration sense rather than the brakes, you may be surprised at the difference it makes to fuel economy.
Cheers, Tom.

Genuine MB parts for this kind of job every time.

Very muchly agreed. I recently replaced my hydraulic tappets with some from GSF and one has started tapping again on start up  So I'm now going to replace my whole valve gear with Merc items. You will actually find that dealer prices are not that much dearer than the cheapo parts anyway and are much better quality.
