Just like to say hello to all. I've been watching for a while and since I treated myself to an SLK (R-reg) a couple of months ago thought I'd take the plunge and join.
Previously drove a '95 Jaguar Sovereign for 3 years so I was a bit worried about adjusting to the very different driving experience but on the whole I have not been disappointed.
I took note of previous threads on buying an SLK and although I couldn't run to a facelift model or a 320 I am pretty pleased with my purchase (85k miles, full MB history etc.) which is in Vivanite Green with the two-tone interior.
I am slightly disappointed with the fuel consumption though. I was used to heavy fuel bills with the Jag at 23mpg but I have only managed 24-25 day to day with and 32mpg on a decent run with the SLK. I could put this down to over-exuberance (new toy after all!) but is this typical?
My only problem so far has unfortunately been an expensive one. A short while ago when trying to lower the roof, the bootlid only raised at one side. Diagnostics showed that all the micro-switches were ok but after dismantling the mechanism a broken wire was found. So much labour was involved that this totalled £485!!
Fixxed earlier this week - 2 days of roof down weather and now its raining again!
Sorry to waffle on a bit, but I'm new to this. I shall try to be more concise with future posts.
