To see if your car is a w202 or w203 have a look here, bottom of the page..

Regards HiDs, kits that place xenon discharge bulbs in halogen light units are illegal...

You cannot legally fit xenon discharge bulbs into light units designed for halogen bulbs.

You can retro-fit complete xenon light units into cars originally fitted with halogen lights..

Read here

From Wikipcars

"The arc light source in an HID headlamp is fundamentally different from the filament light source used in tungsten/halogen headlamps. For that reason, HID-specific optics are used to collect and distribute the light. Installing HID bulbs in headlamps designed to take filament bulbs results in improperly-focused beam patterns and excessive glare, and is therefore illegal in many areas"

He is right I have a directive somewhere from the transport dept that states that the lamp unit must be type approved as a unit ie lamp and bulb, so putting a HID type bulb into a hoaogen lamp is strictly a no-no as they tend to be much longer so logic tell us that that would effect the light . The regs also say that HID lamps vehicles must have self levelling rear suspension and a head lamp washers.
Saying all of that i did convert my motorbike lights to HID against all of the above and it made a big difference. The Police in general tend to turn a blind eye ( no pun inteneded) not unless they are the sillly end of the light sectrun ie blue.

thats why all sellers of HID kits will have a little foot note somewhere to say that they are for off road use only, becuase its illegal to sell them with the intention to fit for road use.

Just to point out that the car is,nt required to have self levelling rear suspension, but self levelling headlamps which replaces the vacuum manual levelling seen on a lot of halogen headlight equipped MB's
