Hi all,
i am looking for a bit of "expert" advice please.
I am being tempted by a mercedes CLK 220 CDi Avantgarde, a 2006 on an 06 plate.
Problem (or not?) is the mileage @ 90k, one owner fsh.
Any advice welcome,
Cheers!

Thanks for the prompt reply,
the body is imaculate, which is not a concern as my brother is a panel beater/painter anyway.
I am more concerned about the mechanical side and what to look for.
cheers.

More answers will come in :D:D a popular car.

Listen carefully for any knocks or creaking when going over speed humps etc.

Mainly roll bar bushes and bottom swivels, easy to change and not expensive

The tyres are half worn and have even wear so i'm hoping all is well with bushes, balljoints, wishbones etc.
I don't mind minor (and fairly cheap) wear and tear where you would expect, my main concern mechanically is the big stuff, engine/box/drive system/cooling etc.
I will be looking to fit a rieger kit, lower it and a nice set of big wheels so i don't want to pour money into it if it's gonna fall to bits soon!

Body Kit on a merc?? I would much rather go for AMG kit. As far as Wheels go, do not go for any more than 18's as you will loose ride comfort.

They are solid cars but 90K in 2 and half years is a bit over the top but as you said its only 1 prev owner which is always good. You should check mileage along with any obvious sounds, leaks scratches etc. Try to haggle the price as 12K is a bit high for that mileage.

Let us know how you get on

Rieger make great kits, all abs plastic (no fibreglass)

I did an a4 (rieger rs4 kit) a few years ago, top notch gear.
I'll see if i can get the price down but can't see anything for much less on autotrader.
The history is merc dealer so i think the miles will be right, can't see anyone lying about 90k!!! If they were gonna clock it i'd immagine it would have 30k on it.
I'll do as many checks as i can, just wondering if there are any common probs with this sort of mileage.

ERM you should have had major service done but there are various things that crop up at around 90K. Mine is 2002 CLK with 88K so just doing all the checks now, also you need to vary of the resale value as it wont get any better when you come to sell it with that extra mileage

I'll have a good look at the service and maybe ring the dealer who carried them out.
I know the miles are well up but the car looks in very good nick.
Maybe i should keep looking and hang on until i find something a bit more sensible in the mileage department.
Been a bit like a kid waiting for christmas since i saw it, think my judgement is being clouded because it looks so good and yep, i want one of those :)

i am not putting you off it but for that price you should be able to find a decent pre 2004/2005 with alot lower mileage with full history.
