Hi folks,

Changing the engine oil this weekend on my coupe and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips on the best brand/ formulation to use.

It's done 194k and is only used now and again on pleasure runs etc.

Also, do people think I should use an engine flush? I'm not 100% confident as to the date of the last change and I don't want to be dislodging any build ups which would subsequently cause engine problems.

Grateful for any tips to keep the old girl running tip top.

Nick

I would use something slightly thicker given the mileage, perhaps 15W50. I do think a regular change is much more important than the brand of oil though.

Hi nick45,
I have never run a car with the mileage that you quote here, however
if you possess the Handbook that should stipulate the Mercedes Oil Spec
in the form of a data sheet number.
I would conform to that.
I have had problems with a less well known brand of mineral oil such as one
may see on sale at a factors for instance, if you have hydraulic tappets
and leave it standing for more than say 2 months with out running it

Best Regards,
Tim
