The Gr Cherokee needs a replacement HP pump,
I'm sure there are good suppliers that you good people can recommend.

It's always nice to deprive the unscrupulous from getting our hard earned.
    Suggestions appreciated.

Any Bosch specialist should be able to rebuild them

    Thanks for the suggestions.
I stripped it to rebuild with a service kit and found a small metal component crunched within. There is a spring that keeps pressure on a valve that can now partially enter the main chamber. Certainly the spring and the crunched component aren't part of the service kit. So assuming a rebuild will only use a service kit I was anticipating the need for a replacement pump.

I bought a service kit fitted it and it seems fine.
The kit was quite comprehensive and came from a diesel centre.

Yes I have a service kit bought some time ago when the pump was leaking.
Back then it turned out to be the back plate that was loose, so I replaced some obvious 'o' rings and all was fine. I think it possible that the pump being loose has allowed the crunched component to get where it shouldn't. This component, I'm guessing, keeps the pressure on a disc that is effectively for the valve on the fuel intake. Crunched component, loose spring and the spring chewed a little also.
Neither the crunched component or spring are in my kit. while it may well be that these components could be sourced or even in stock at a specialist, I can see possible confusion over trying to order them without drawings to refer to.

My thoughts on 'just getting' a pump are that I anticipate that it can go in and get the Jeep going again. If it needs attention in future I have a service kit and the original pump to play with. With this little job out of the way, and a couple more issues to deal with, we are free to go and find some sun and sailing. Larisa fancies Cuba, so then I can go to Malaysia (only joking with that bit, honest).

Hmm fix pump or sunshine holiday ?
That doesn't seem to be too difficult a decision.
Mind you the Cubans would probably fix it with something or other the sanctions have made them a resourceful lot.
