aircon off will have made near enough zero difference, unless it stops the compressor/pump from operating, which on older cars, it DOESNT

that is pretty good for a 2013 car. what mileage has the car done?

Did you reset the computer part way through your journey?

Did you reset the computer part way through your journey?

Nope.

Zero'd before ignition. G46 7TH to G72 7RW via the M77/M8/M74 complex if you can be bothered with Googly Maps.

I've been hitting high 50s (57-58) for the past week or so and decided to drive like Miss Daisy today.

I think 65mpg is definitely achievable on a decent run with this car at circa 56mph.

The temptation to boot it is strong however - especially as my last car was an S500

If I try that on my car it says xxx miles from start or xxx mile from reset, to cheat I think that you may have to turn off and on again, but mine remains active for about 4 hours

Nicely done! It should get even better as the engine loosens up ;)

Thats what I like about diesels. :)
None of this high consumption for ages while its warming up on the choke.

Although will that drop as the particulates start to build up ?
I read a lot of posts here with problem diesels.

Brim to brim to verify it, but it'll definitely be in the 50s.

An efficient Diesel engine combined to tall gearing and a slippery body shell will only yield good results.

The MPG on our S has been slowly rising since we got it 20 months ago. No sign of a constipated DPF for the moment. ;-)

I've had mine reach 74mpg at 65mph over 70 motorway miles.

Good fuel consumption

This is from my 2002 C Class 220 CDi on the run home from work. I do this five days a week and over the last 1200 miles it's averaged over 52mpg. That has included four or five stoppy starty trips through Edinburgh which is a total nightmare at the moment.

My employer has bought a number of Nissan Leafs at £30k +. Then they have to hire the batteries at £120 per month. They have a range of 80 miles if you don't use the heater, radio or the wipers. In typical Scottish weather, a range of 55 miles is more likely. They are doing about 4000 miles a year as pool cars. Nobody wants to use them as they have fallen over at 30 miles if you drive them like your own car. For that money we could have bought four Ford Fiesta Diesels, (Our other pool cars), which are being thrashed without mercy and are providing 60+ mpg.

The Leaf might be zero emissions at the point of use, but remember someone somewhere is burning coal / gas / oil to produce the electricity for them and the overall cost is eyewatering. About £40,000 for 12000 miles. Resale value is very very low.

My old Merc cost £2500 and with £50 a week for fuel, it is indeed economy motoring with a large touch of sportyness and Class.

It would be interesting to see how this compares with the actual consumption figures, using something like Fuelly. But it's not exactly a bad result whichever way you look at it!

I'd like my mpg to start with a '6', but I would have to do too much pushing to achieve it. Although I have managed a genuine 55mpg...

I've never had 55mpg and my cars smaller engined, lighter, smaller blah blah blah.

If it does mid 40s mpg I'm happy

....and I thought the 38.1 mpg I got out of my old woman's W210 3.2 petrol over a 321 mile run was good!!.

I've been driving my E220CDI estate (2012) for 5 months or so, and I've only once or twice briefly been at 50+ (and I think those were system glitches!). My typical trip is in the 40-45 range, and my average since I got the car is 42.2.

95% of the time I make a conscious and constant effort to drive as economically as I can. Which means 'E' mode and stop/start on, gentle acceleration, coasting where I can, trying to obey speed limits, etc. The only thing I allow myself is to do 80-85 (according to speedo) on motorways - private stretches thereof, naturally - and the occasional overtaking of a tractor or a granny in a Micra.

Don't know how I can ever get the average into the 50s, or if this indeed even possible; seems to me like mid-40s is already a challenge. Although that said, the mpg is very gradually creeping up, whether it's the car limbering up (it had 12k miles on when I bought it, now has 20k) or the weather getting marginally warmer, or what.
