My wife insists that when she put the air con on the other day the side vents blew HOT air instead of cold even though the centre ones were fine - she said that the drivers side one in particular was very warm! Any ideas as to what could cause this - it's been fine whenever I've driven the car.

What temp were the temp controls set at?

I think the centre one blows fresh air most of the time, the side ones are conected to the heat system. If the temp controls were set to low temp, then you may need the A/C repressurised.

You should be able to test it out in the drive, it should blow cold air pretty shortly after starting up.

How old is your wife?

Thanks for reply - I assume the temp controls were set to the coldest setting - her concern was that the air being blown out of the side vent was VERY hot. If the air con needs regassing wouldn't it be consistently poor?

Hot aircon

What car are we talking about?

I've found with W124s that they blow hot when they're restarted when hot. This should quickly turn cold if the aircon's working

If the duovalve's kaput, or the temperature sensor behind the interior light isn't working, the temperature tends to be very hot or very cold with no inbetween

Sound familiar??

Perhaps your wife's way telling you "time for a new car " ? :)

Better not be - we've only had it four weeks and I scoured the country for a good one!

Re the previous post - how long should it take before the hot air turns cool again?

the symptoms you describe can occur if you have the centre vents pointed upward. This has the effect of telling the roof mounted temperature sensor that the interior is too cool and bringing on the heater! The side vents can blow hot or cold, the centre vents cold only.

Air con

I'm told that wives can blow hot and cold as well... no experience there, I'm afraid!
