V-Reg, '99, E220D CDI. I think it's 75ltr but there was an option for a bigger tank. Is this right or has my research been useless? I haven't done 'the big fill' yet so don't know exactly but when I've put some fuel in it's taken quite a bit but only getting up to 3/4 full.

Is there any way of telling whether the initial buyer did any upgrade?

Iirc there were 2 tanks available for w210 saloon 70 or 80 litres not sure if option or whether larger engined cars got the bigger tank.
Always run mine until the light comes on then tank up approx £70/75 ish, so mine could have the bigger tank.

From the russian site for my 430 but only lists 1 tank for the 220cdi with no mention of size.
Guessing for ski bag or similiar.

There were 2 tank sizes. I thought it was a 60l for the smaller engines and 80l for the bigger ones. The bigger tank was a low cost option for the smaller engined models and still is afaik.

Hmmm. When I bought it I was, in a strange way, hoping that they had a ridiculously large fuel tank (100-120 litres) so it could do a monumental distance on one tank.

Maybe not then.

IIRC the estates had the larger tank as standard but I may have dreampt that.
60 Ltr should give >500 miles
80 Ltr should give ~700 miles
