How can a MB dealer over a 100miles away deliver to my address, parts cheaper than the local dealer? Eg this week's purchase - a set of (heavy) brake discs and pads inc sensor/bolts.

I try to support local businesses. However, the local MB dealer is hard work since moving to their £60+Million new home and so have started sourcing elsewhere.

So, I can ring and order parts from at least a couple of dealers who do mail order, Save typically 15-20% against local dealer. Do not even have to waste time going into the local dealership to collect as the remote dealers deliver.

Cannot figure this out.

some parts are cheaper if they are on shelf.
It is odd esp if the same franchise, but they are all seperate businesses at the end of the day and have to balance thier own books.
I would have asked the local to price match.

That said I am a fan of getting things delivered where i am not deperately in need. Saves time and hassle going here and there.

They offer a very good service but do double check part numbers with mail order

Always speak to the parts person - commute a lot in the car and so good use of my time when stuck in traffic jams.
You sometimes have to remind the parts person over upgraded parts or what about the bolts/washers/etc!

Majority of my needs are stock off shelf items - consumables. Mail order brake disc/pad/etc @ £178 delivered vs the "local Gin palace" @ £224 at counter. (Ordered Monday morning, arrived Tuesday morning, painted this morning! Will be fitted Friday)

Local dealer given price to match, not even asked to better it. Did say that I could set up an account (as a taxi driver???) to qualify for 5-10% :(

Mail order oil @ £72 whilst "local stealer" @ £92
Need some other bits before MOT............ mail order @ £560 vs local dealer @ £685.
(In a bad year I can spend £3,500+ on parts thus starting to take an interest).

Sadly, I am going down this route with most things even though really want to spend in local businesses. Even the counter staff at the local bank encourage online (wonder if they contemplate long term employment ramifications).
