Hello,

New here so go easy please. I have bought a used E270CD estate W211. The rear suspension looks like it riding low to me. The top of the rear wheels are always slightly up under the arches.

Also, when dricinv last night with four adults (Skinny ones) including me (not so skinny). Doind about 40mph on an A road dual carraigeway, we drove over a depression in the road which made the car squat down I suppose. The rror meesage, suspension to low, stop and pul lover warning sign blipped up onthe display momentarilly.

Can I raise the height or do I have a problme. Particularly as I intednt o load up the car with heavy camping equipment next week.

Sorry, its an Avantgarde 2004. Can I physically measure what the ride height should be?

I would start by checking to see if there is anything missing or off on the rear axle, in regards to any control arms as in the link

Thought I would let you know. Took it to a Indy MB specialist. No problems with suspension, No warning messages since,

I willtest it for sure next week, when I go fully laden with camping gear and family to Cornwall.

This problem has occurred again. I got the ride height checked by Indy MB guy. He said all was as standard and no problems.

However, yesterday on A1M (with me , wife and 2 small kids) and v little luggage the warning sign "stop car too low pull over" came up twice when the car "sat down" when driving over an uneven part of dual carraigeway doing about 55mph.

No speed bump, nothing, just a dip in the road.

Is this correct, should it keep coming up with the warning sign.

It must not come up with the red dash when driving unless there is air in the system,or there is fluid loss, have you checked the fluid level

Definitely not correct and should not keep coming up with the warning.

Where are you based? Need to get to another indy to get it checked properly.
As mentioned, ride height can be calibrated via STAR.

STAR will confirm if the car is sitting properly in the first place as it will read the values from the height sensors and state whether they are within the expected range. If they are not, there's a special hand held device that is used to measure the actual height at each corner. These values are fed into STAR and it calibrates the ride height based on the values.
This is how airmatic is calibrated. I think the S211 have air susspension at the rear, so a similar process applies.

But you need to go to an indy with STAR and one of those hand held devices for adjusting the height.

I agree with the above,,but add that if you do have air in the system, it can trigger the "car too low" at odd times.

Star cannot pick this up

Thanks Malcolm.

I was not quite right as this is an air system

This car is air suspension, so no air problems,,but one of the height sensors or spheres is giving these faults,,, If you get out after the fault has come up, is the height correct all round, or was it a blip fault that passed,,problem is that it stays there till you turn on and on.
As Mr shr said it will be recorded on STAR

Then I would not be too worried right now,,I am not sure if the relay module applies to the 211 as it does the 220

A further development on the suspension issue on my car.

After unloading the enormous weight of all the camping gear. The suspension rose up, enough that I could get a clenched fist in between the wheel arch and wheel.

The suspension level has not levelled down again. I have driven the car for about 3 hours over two days and it still remains really high. Looks like a jacked up boy racer car now.

Any ideas on why this has happened and how I lower it again?

You do have a height adjuster button on the console or dash, I think that someone has pressed it without realizing

If you have full airmatic, there will be a raise/lower button between the gear selector lever and the drinks holder (next to parktronic button).

But I dont think you have airmatic on your car. I think you have rear auto leveling (like my s211).
It's like a partial airmatic system, I suppose.

I do think you have a problem.

Any luck with finding a good indy?
STAR will tell you which sensor/s is out of range.
Remind me where you are located. Someone might be able to suggest a place to take it.

Thanks,

I have a manual gearbox. No ride height button to be found.

Yes its a self levelling airmatic. I have been to MB indy in Molesey, Surrey. I will go again to to get it checked out once more.

Many thanks.
