Hi,
Open the bonnet and on the side opposite to the fuse box, remove large plastic cover if fitted and you will see a black rectangular box approx. 3"x1" under this cover you will see two studs you can put 12v into the car's electrical system to operate the central locking, be carefull to get the polarity right and don,t try to jump start from here.
The boot lock is quite a common occurance on W202s before replacing it try lubricating it and working the key in and out, 9 times out of ten it will start working again.
Once mine was free I bought a plastic blank like the one in my drivers door lock to go in the boot lock so it would,nt happen again.

Hi,
I used jump leads though I did,nt use the earth stud I put it on the chassis/body close by and managed to get the positive jump lead on, but I don,t see any reason why a battery charger would,nt do it.
Just a thought though when i did mine there was battery connected no chance of the positive battery lead in the boot touching the chassis, better bear that in mind.

The positive pole is the one with the big '+' embossed on the battery body next to it or in the case of some batteries under a protective cover.

As for the car the positive pole will always be covered by a protective flap. This is to prevent it from touching the body work.

I think he means which is the +ve on the black box under the bonnet not on the battery.. ;)

incidentally, if you need to get into a locked car with no battery or manual key remove the rear numberplate light and put a 12v supply accross the terminals.

You can then use your remote.

Opening the boot of the C180

Once mine was free I bought a plastic blank like the one in my drivers door lock to go in the boot lock so it would,nt happen again.

Well I disconnected the battery -Ve lead at the chassis bolt and then shut the boot lid to go and get some more tools, AND when I returned my key wouldent open the boot, I tried WD40 in the lock but it wouldent free up. on removing the rear seats to try to gain access to the boot space I found only 2 smallish holes. In one I could just see with the aid odf a torch, the batterys -Ve lead. The other hole I was able to insert a long lenth of wire taped to a long piece of plastic conduit, the other end of the wire I had connected to the chassis, so was able to complete the circuit and open the boot. ( I dident know about the plastic box in the engine bay that I could have connected a battery charger to!). Any way I removed the lock assy stripped the lock down, removed and cleaned all the jambed lock tappets, oiled the whole thing and re assembled the lock and re-fitted it to the car. All ok now, I sprayed WD40 in the drivers door lock as well, just in case I have troubles there too. the boot lock has 2 positions I discovered, one to open the lock and another to isolate the electronic boot opener (I wont be using that cos if the lock gave me any trouble in the future I wouldent be able to open the thing), well that was the end of my first month of owning a Mercedes, I hope I dont gown a nother road like this one quite an ordeal.

The main power lead under the front fuse box saved my bacon, after I disconnected the battery and shut the boot on my CL. Power applied and voila! one open boot. (The power opening and closure mechanism on mine makes it nigh impossible to open without power, even if you manage to unlock it).
