How do I play music from my phone

Hi there.
My 2011 e220 doesn’t have the ability to play music via Bluetooth. I’ve seen a lot of posts saying there is an aux cord located either in the glove box or centre tray, however in my car there is not an aux I put in either places. There is only a Mercedes media plug located in the centre tray. So I bought a media to usb cable for the car, however when I plug it into my iPhone and a windows phone it says device not compatible. Firstly could anyone answe why I don’t have an aux input? And secondly does anyone know how I can have a compatible device/ make my device compatible?

Have played an iPod classic via media connections fine, but no other device yet, but that was fully integrated

Do you have Comand?
If so the firmware can be updated to allow BT audio streaming for music (mine was already done when I bought it a few weeks ago)
That works fine from an android phone.....
You may also have a 10GB Hdd music register.....?

You can post a pic up here if you like and we can see if we can identify it? Otherwise if you contact comandonline with your vin number they will be able to tell you and advise on the Bluetooth issue at the same time

I wish it was as simple as getting the unit to display the model on screen

"comand" (with an M missing) is the Merc name for a big screen and built in sat nav

do you have BT phone ? (if you don't have that you won't get BT music)
you may or may not be in a good place... some NTG4.5 units (I believe) can get a firmware update giving a new menu to allow BT music streaming functionality...

so it has sat nav as well ? you could dash to a main dealer (this year !) and see if they are still doing the £100 deal to update to the latest maps... then whilst plugged in to the computer in Germany ask dealer to flash NTG with latest firmware (bug fixes and improvements) even if it doesn't give you the BT music an update would be a good idea

the point you made about the CD? Do you mean you have no CD drive ? or you don't have a SD card memory card slot ? - hopefully will give others a chance to identify and add more on if u can get BT music

I have the big screen and maps, along with bt phone. And yes aha I did mean sd cars slot. I’ve also tried an old iPod which works with the data cable.

does the memory card make it newer than the CD slot versions (would make sense) ??? in which case get the head unit (comand NTG) updated

Merc seemed to be honouring the map updates at £99 even recently but as its more than 1/2 price I wouldn't mess about....
do you have DAB ? coz that would need an update as well... they stopped working when a feb 2016 change to the UK service caused many merc tuners to flip their lid
