Hi Television. I have a Mercedes E270 Diesel W211 Automatic. I have replaced the battery 2 weeks ago after I had problems with the battery dying. I bought a new battery and it is happening again. I got the AA to come out, and they told me it is the alternator. Is there a tutorial on how to replace the alternator thanks?

Open a window fully (see end of story).
Disconnect the battery ground strap.
Take off the fan belt.
Take off the wiring at the alternator.
Take off any undershield.
Take out the alternator securing bolts.
Lower it out and there you have it.
Re-assembly is the reverse of the above.
When reconnecting the battery:-
Keep the key in your pocket, sometimes the security system can lock the car when the battery is being connected, or you could leave a window open just in case.
Mine did and I didn't, but the spare key was handy.

It may be possible to change just the reg pack but need to be sure that you have the right info, there is also the possibility that you have a water cooled alternator
Can you pop up the next 3 numbers after 211 please.
If you can just change the reg pack it will be a few hundred ££ cheaper

Hi, the VIN number is WDB2112262A377288. Im led to believe its a water cooled unit. Its not noisy when running so with luck I can repair it,getting off is the problem. I have access to a ramp at weekends.
