Hi,

Ok, I feel really stupid for asking this, but how do I get the electric aerial out of a 1997 C180 Sport? It is situated on the rear passenger wing.

I have taken the inside boot trim out and disconnected the wiring. I have also taken off the fixing cap that secures the aerial to the body of the car.

The top of the aerial is too 'fat' to pull through the black plastic 'positioner' and I can't get it off, so basically everything is now loose but has nowhere to go :)

Does the aerial itself screw out? I didn't want to try this in case I damaged anything inside it.

Thanks,

Gary

PS. Do you know if these aerials can be fixed? It goes up ok, but when it attempts to close, it stops with about 1/4 sticking out. I was planning taking it out, giving it a good oiling and checking the motor.

is it an original?

if it is, it should just push down and into the boot from the top. The only bit you have to fiddle with outside is the black plastic trim/fairing thing which you seem to have already removed. Don't take anything else off outside, it all comes out from inside. You can get replacement OE spec Beru aerial from ECP for about £30.

As Myros says it pushes out from the top into the boot. If you manage to 'unstick' the existing aerial, clean off all the oil after re-installation and just give the antenna a good wax polish and leave dry. Oil on it will collect road dust & grit and gum up the works again in the future. Same will apply even if you have to fit a new aerial of course.
