I need to replace the front air vent on the drivers window side that blows fresh air into the drivers face, as mine is not working properly. I can't find any how-to videos on this, has anyone seen any instructions ? I don't want to ruin the fascia, obviously, so I am reluctant to go poking about with screwdrivers/trim tools etc.

Any help/ideas gratefully received.

Thanks for that, the wire hook trick seemed to work pretty well, there are no secret holes on the R231. In fact the wire hook is the only method that would work.

So I have taken the vent out, and on closer inspection, the delicate plastic turn knob retainer mechanism has well and truly broken, there is no repairing it.

So I have ordered a new vent from MB parts dept @ £108. I am not a fan of eBay used parts, my experience has not been great over the years.

Car too nice to spoil for something costing less than a wiper blade (wow they are expensive)!
