I have recently had a reconditioned engine put in my merecedes slk and it now misfires at 4000 rpm and goes into limp mode merecedes say that the ecu is f***** and needs to be replaced is it possible that the ecu just needs to be reset and if so how can I do it without taking it back to merecedes as they quoted £1495 to replace ecu

There is a way to reset the ecu to default values, but whether this will help I don't know.

It's mentioned in another thread on this forum somewhere, but the procedure is something like this:

Turn the ignition on without starting the engine, depress the accelerator all the way to the floor and release.

Leave for about two minutes before turning the ignition off.

Best to check for the thread in case I've got that wrong.

Hi,
I have heard of these symptons before and the only remedy was to replace the ECU.
Personally don,t think 'reseting' the ECU will make any difference at all.
A new ECU need not cost you £1500 you can get your one repaired at a fraction of the price of a new one.
Not sure of the companies name but i,m sure other members will post a link to the relevant companies that could repair it for you.
Hope this has been of some use to you.
Best of luck with the Mercedes.
