Ah yes !! .... you have an oil leak, and it can't be found !

The answer is.... find someone who can find the oil leak !!!!!!!!

I know this may sound daft, and I'm not a techie ..... but if your current service provider is'nt coming up with better answers than....."you need a new gearbox mate" .. then you need a good MB specialist.

Wait overnight, and there's some mechanics on here that will give a pointer or 2 ......... and I bet a Bankers bonus, paid for by us ......... that you don't end up spending the sort of money you've been quoted !!

Thanks for that not being rude but the current economic climate isn't helping(i swear they add things to charge us more!!) as everytime its come back its worse and like i said to him a gearbox doesn't just go like that why didn't you pick this up a week ago when we spent £300 on it??He claims he said the gear box will eventually need replacing and yet the oil leak has been going on since july and they still can't tell us from where its leaking!!??

I'm sure that people aren't ignoring you because you're a new member. It's more likely that they don't have any knowledge of the Vaneo.

There's probably a known leakage point e.g. the ECU connector for some autoboxes, but being unable to locate a leak is down to laziness.

Two options - steam clean drive it and then look on a regular basis; liberal application of baby powder (talc) and then check where it runs from.

Are they certain that the leak is the gearbox rather than from the back of the engine?

Hi Chris yes i realised that may be the case as you don't tend to see alot of Vaneos on the road and after reading ppls comments on them i wished i had joined here before we brought it!!!!
I too cannot understand how this leak cannot be detected i may give them a call when i asked why it went in just a few weeks ago and the gearbox wasn't mentioned(they say they did say it would eventually need replacing??)I just can't understand when we have been telling them about the oil for so long now that nothing seems to have been done!!
