Well, I think if you look at your description you see your answer. Its the sun. We all know that everything orbits the Sun due to the Sun's greater gravitational pull. So, up to 12:00 the Sun is rising so the pull of the Sun (in the sky) is increasing and your car effectively gets lighter. Then in the afternoon, as the Sun moves down, it reduces and your car gets heavier. And obviously in the summer the suns up longer - so lighter car and better mpg. :)

Other likely reasons,

he was going against the rotation of the earth in the morning so the destination was being brought toward him.

There was a greater downhill potion of the journey in the morning.

He was lighter in the afternoon due to the fuel used and him having dispensed with his breakfast.

But he might have had lunch, we do not know that

Talking to his passenger could dispense with that.

there was the northern wind blowing at around 4.30pm as in the morning driving east on A52

had to say it was a brilliant sunset yesterday along A1(M) south and A14 east through Huntington and Cambridge @ 5.30pm. where is the sun today?

I still didnt managed to get 43.8mpg started out, not more about 41.3mpg, coming back, I thought the engine management had developed a fault.

That £50 of unleaded petrol for just 290 miles. when I got back have to fill in another £30, all gone to the government.

Motorists are paying 5p a litre more for petrol than a year ago because of rising VAT, according to the AA.
That is an extra 23p VAT on a gallon of petrol, while those with diesel vehicles are paying an extra 6p a litre or 27p a gallon.

jasonyw,

I want to understand you, I really do...but you make it difficult.

Could you tell us a little about yourself, a sort of mini auto biography (that's a book about you, written by you). Include such things as your early influences, your education and maybe something about the hard times.

Then explain why you read the ****** Daily Mail.

Kind regards,

R12ts.

Well it is well known that if something is in the paper then it is true, and the Dailly Mail does it better than anyone else.

The same goes for the internet, it must be true as someone has said it is
