How does Mercedes me works?

Took my car delivery yesterday. (First time to own a Mercedes)
I was sent a text with a link to my phone to complete my registration.
On the activation screen of my desktop computer I see so many choices, I could or not select.
Two shows as selected automatically with a blue tick next to them.

Others such as internet radio, vehicle theft tracking, ect ect remain to be selected.

Should I select all of them and if Yes will I be paying extra for those services?
If not, will car computer system using mobile phone data plan to provide those services?
How does sat nav work? Do I need a mobile phone tethered to my car to use this?

Mercedes me is just a dongle that transmits data to your phone. You can access all the data from your car. Just a dashboard

It's built in to the newer models with a lot more functionality - what use that functionality actually is has yet to be decided... and is really up tot the OP to decide what they want

Tracking is what MB want so they know where it is if the PCP payments stop...

The reason for asking is that my phone does not have mobile data on it.

No, you won't need a mobile for that - there is a sim built into the car for the emergency call function (and the tracking I referred to earlier)

You do not need a mobile, just tick all the boxes, I have 31 services ticked and no idea what some of them are!

Just got Mercedes_me app on my phone. I am presented with some choice.
I do not see all of them are required for me.

I would like my built in SatNav functional. In order to get this functional do I need to Select any in here?
Would it be expensive if I select all of them to be active. (I would like to learn as to how it is paid for?)

I used it on both cars for the first 3 years it was free, never bothered paying to keep it going and do not miss any of the features one bit.

Most of those are fairly obvious?

Turn them on and if you find they are not useful to you then you turn them off again.

If you have Apple car play download Waze to you phone & navigate with that. A very small use of data, traffic live & route planning is light years ahead of the MB version. Plus your have camera warning as well.

I find it pretty handy for :

1) Checking if I have locked my car (and locking it if needed) ..... you know that feeling “did I remember to lock the car”.....
2) Geofencing is great
3) Sending destinations to the car SatNav instead of having to enter it sitting in the car.
4) Tyre pressures - I never check them when I am in the car.

Every option was ticked but some will expire after 3 years. One has expired today and that is "In Car Office" which is of no interest to me.
I can check via my cars onboard system where each feature is listed individually along with its expiry date, but a lot of them have no expiry.
The basics as listed by Rory are great and I use some or all of them daily.
I believe the "Mercedes me" system to be one of the best on the market currently.

I have 8GB monthly inclusive on my tarriff but most of the time I am using Wi-Fi at home or at work so its not something I have ever thought about to be honest.
I would think the data usage while using the app is likely to be negligible though.

I am always amused that folk can spend a small fortune on a new car and then worry about a few hundred bytes of data that get transferred when they access the app.

Sorry, but it is not just the OP, but you see it on umpteen different forums.
