As a tight old ba$@rd who's also handy with the spanners there's nothing that I won't have a go at to save myself a few quid! When would you call it a day with DIY and whats the most involved job you've ever done on your Mercedes?

I'll have a go at pretty much anything, as long as I've got a good diagram and it's not electronic. But anything that needs a lift I'll leave to the indy, I'm through with crawling around on the driveway banging my head and getting dizzy.

far enough to get out of my depth

then put it back together and call in a professional. It's the only way to max the envelope

The one thing that I've found out so far with my W210 is that there is nothing to be afraid of as long as you've got the confidence to have a go, mechanically its pretty simple stuff, maybe some owners are daunted by the Mercedes Benz name, I've stripped and rebuilt my front and rear suspension over the last two weekends, compared to my wifes Xantia its simplicity itself!

I used to go all the way until I got the 55 now I won't touch it, wouldn't want to insult or descrate a handbuilt engine.

I agree entirely, chances are though that with the superb design, manufacture and assembly of the V8 in your car you would'nt have to touch it anyway, the rest of the cars not much different than any other E class though!

Scared of everything on mine.

Served my time many years ago, but nowadays is very different. As Dave says really.

If I messed with it I'd probably break it :(

Did polish it today though :)

BTW robs-mbz.....It's a *LOT* more than the engine which is different on these things :(...

Box, Axles, Suspension, Brakes etc. A totally different animal than a standard E Class.
