Hello, chaps. An odd one:

My garage (indie Merc specialist) is adamant that my VIN shows up as 221bhp. This is strange as my car is an E280 CDI Sport and according to every single reference from the registration plate it is 188bhp.

Any thoughts on this?

I would only be concerned with what was published on the V5C and that it matched information printed on the CE Cert in the A5 Folder in your vehicle docs wallet.

I always thought it was the 320's that were 220 odd. Does the VIN detail the power?

My 280 was only 188 hp. As mapped down.
The 320 is 221hp.
That is strange unless it's been re mapped?

Maybe not, my 639 does the 211 doesn't.

I think the confusion comes from the web, US versions were lower power and some websites list the 280 as having the same power as the 320.

I don't know what database they are using but it was definitely diagnosed by looking up the VIN, not the registration plate. I can't find any resource on the net which allows me to check it myself...

That's exactly my understanding but they're not taking it from a rolling road, just a VIN look-up which wouldn't know if a remap had been installed...

Yes, I'm sure that's right. I'll go down and check it with them later.

OK; call off the dogs. He checked it against another database (but the same company, oddly) and it came back as 190bhp.

So all is well with the world...

If it's a VIN look up you're talking of

Ah, thank-you. I'd already got that but in a less readable form. Doesn't confirm the bhp in that document but I'm pretty sure now that it is the 188bhp it should be.
