Hi All,
My date of becomming a Merc owner has been brought forwards to this Wednesday or Thursday..
Can anyone tell me how many keys I should expect with the car..
I ask because if the spare is missing then no doubt it would cost a small fortune to replace...

Thanks for any advice,

S.

2 plastic keys with metal keys inserted in the top, they cost £200 to replace, do make sure that they both work

Oh my God I wasn't expecting such a draconian price for a key!!

Thank you for your very quick response..

Its is a safety issue as much as anything, at least no one is going to steal it very easily. MB are not alone in these prices, Volvo and B-- are the same price

Hi,
As Malc, but ensure the metal key inserts (with each electronic key) operate all the external locks especially the boot lock as the key barrels have a tendency to sieze.

Thank you so much for the advice.. It sounds like the keys are a 2 piece affair that you fit together as and when you need to use them manually..
I remember when I went for a test drive it had a weird looking key in the ignition.. It was Infra Red or something.

The chrome ones are nice, mine is not gold, it was the reflection from my sun tan in the picture;)

I only got one with my car (I'm the third owner). Works for me, though - there isn't a "spare" key at home for some toerag to steal prior to absconding with my pride and joy!

cmax200 that is a great photo..
Am I correct in thinking that the metal "blade" part of the key fits inside the actual handle??

They all do even the plastic ones, new keys supplied today as replacements are the chrome type, and no you cannot buy one and fit your inside as the PCB will not fit

The one shown is the one supplied by my Dealer who I purchased the car off. I told them I wanted 2 sets with the car (2nd User) and he provided me with it. The original is one of the Black Plastic types and is kept in a secure place in the event of an emergency. The Plastic one has a similar metal key within it. A little lock button the end of the Key releases the blade.
