I got the insurance document for my 320CE today, it was insured as a 4 door. I phoned them and told them I had made a special trip out to the car and there were some doors missing on my car, can I have a rebate. "No Sir, that'll be another £14"

So why do less doors cost more to insure?

I think they must class it as a sport version.a coupe is more to insure than a saloon.

4 miles a year...that gets me thinking as to how you could phone up these people and wind them up (but you know who it would end up costing)

I told them that I would do a ubquitous 12,000 miles. I think i'll tell them I was sick one day and mow look loke I'm only going to make 11,950 miles this year.

I wonder what the breaks are on insurance mileage, I think if I said I would do 11,999 it would take it into another zone?

insurance

Now that you have two cars you could half your mileage on both insurance polices
Thus making them cheaper.

that what I was thinking. They don't seem to check what is on your clock so don't have any real way of knowing what mileage you really do.

I plan to do 11,500 on my cheaper to to insure car, and 500 on the other.

Thats the thing. They dont ever check your mileage. So i just tell them i do 5000 miles a year. Works out a lot cheaper(as i found out doing an internet insurance check) More like 10.000, but feck em!! They aint ever going to come and check my speedo twice a year are they???!!???

you just have to make sure you dont smash it up coz thats when they check. if you have done more than you said you would do you dont get no money.

But they dont ask you the mileage on your clock when you take out your policy. So how are they gonner know how many miles you have done?

Playing the devil's advocat (not the eggy dutch drink), I guess they could check the MOT records.

But if your brain is switched on, you could tell the firemen, as they cut out of the car, that you need the dash and they could cut that out as well. Somehow the dash gets lost on the dash to hospital.

That could work. But im not sure like to be drinking spirits on the way to hospital TBH :)

Mileage is recorded on the M.O.T Certificate so they could check and make a pro rata assumption on the year and of course if you are already over the allowance then your stuffed....

Whilst I am always keen to keep costs down :) I think that lying to insuarance companys is too much of a risk. If you make a claim they are going to make the checks to see if they can get out of paying - not because they are the bad guys but because thye have to check everything is in order. They are going to want to see the MOT, the service records, proof of purchase and anything else they can think of to check up on you. I have had to give the mileage at insurance renewal in the past and for my classic SL they require a copy of the MOT each year - I suspect purely for the mileage.

Bottom line - Insurance companirs never lose out, so dont take the risk.

Hmmmm, can you not just tell them you throw your old MOT's away when you get a new one? And act all dumb like its the norm to do this!! LOL

I have bought a few cars with no previous mot sheets before, just the new one that came with the car. So lets say, if i wrote the car off in that first year only haveing the one MOT sheet, what would the insurance company do then??

They will be looking at the mileage from the MOT to the crash. If you crash on the run home from the MOT station you are home free. But if crash on the way to the MOT station you could be in trouble.

Here's a thought. Tell them you are going to do 5,000 miles, when you hit 5,000 tell them you look like you are going to do more so they will increase your bill to the normal rate. That way you will get the first 5,000 miles at the cheap rate.

I have two limited mileage policies. One of the companies wanted a mileage declaration on taking out the policy. The other didn't.
