Hi everyone,

My dad has owned a CLK 320 Elegance from new since 2000 and wants to sell it to me (and I WANT to buy it!). With us being family, he wants a fair price for it and I want to buy for a fair price.

Could you guys help me out with a rough value for the car?

It has 90k on the clock, is in black, has light black leather seats, is W-reg, has immaculate paint and alloys (garaged last 5 years), full Mercedes service history, and a few extras like a CD auto changer, cruise control. It lacks the full climate control unit I have seen inside some CLKs.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to joining the forum proper as a Mercedes owner!

Have you tried Parkers Guide at www.parkers.co.uk?
I have found them fairly reliable.
I read it as Private Poor £3140 to Private Good £4155 with a trade in value of £3560. So I would charge my son £3500.

A guy in the village struggled to sell his silver 2001 / 66k recently - went for "well under " 3k in the end.

Hi John,

What Car are generally more generous and Wise Byuers' Guides are generally more brutal. But I looked at the latter for comparison, and was surprised to find, for a 2000 W:

Retail:£5,350
Private Good:£4,500
Private Average:£3,830
Private Poor:£3,260
Part Exchange:£4,130
Trade:£3,900

so, assuming you don't go for Mark's idea (family rates, no charge), the £3,500 seems a kind price.

If it helps.......

last month I sold my 1998 CLK320 with 96k miles, FSH, leather, digital c/c, for £3k.

So £3.5k sounds about, maybe a little more if the paint is genuinely very good and there's no rust on the wheel arches.

Thanks for all who have replied.

To answer one of the latter ones, it hasn't got ANY rust.

I also forgot to mention earlier that it has a tracker unit.

Anyone else wish to chip in?

I would say £3500 sounds a good price for both parties.

Tracker wouldn't add anything to the value (it probably won't reduce your insurance either!).

I just re-quoted without tracker and guess what.......you're right.

Guess I won't bother with paying for tracker anymore then! However, I live in a high crime area (a 'refer' insurance postcode, worst grading) so maybe I should just in case....

My previous CLK had a Tracker and I paid £10/month for it.
Like you, it made no difference to the insurance premium but gave me peace of mind.
