How often does your CD changer Skip?

I have OEM MB 6 disc changer through a COMAND system and the multi changer has started to skip a lot, depending on the road, it probably skips every 10-30 minutes.
I have adaptive suspension and AMG low profile tyres so the ride is relatively hard (if that makes a difference).

In my previous C250 with sports suspension though I had a Sony unit which hardly ever skipped, only if it was a massive bomb-crate in the road.

The MB unit is screwed into the boot rear well near the n/s wheel. I checked the orientation thingys on the side which show an arc of holes and a metallic pin in the most vertical hole - I guess thats right?

-Finally a use a lot of "homemade" CDR's in it and I wonder if that make's a difference.

Normally it shouldn't Skip, I have some very hard suspension and low profile tire on one of my car, and those two Sony system never skip...

The only thing I could think of, is some dirt or dirty head of your changer, I do have this problem before, but in my other car, which is a Sony changer....

Have u try to use some CD head cleaner to clean the head? I have try the HMV one, the one with some 'hair' on the CD, and follow the instruction, finally, solve it out....

Try it, before u replace it!!

I think the 'Home made CDR's may be the answer!

Try the originals (you do have them don't you!!

Seriously trying originals will help isolate the problem as some cheaper CDR's are known to have readability problems!

I 've cleaned the lens and put original Cd's back in and it is better but it still skips more often than my previous old sony unit

This unit is not Sony, I think it is Becker, but there is no branding -only the MB logo.
How can I check that the orientation is right?
