I wondered if anyone had done this?
The instructions say if you have the spare steel wheel option .. which I do, that this part can be removed on a its own.

You must carefully pull it out from the left side.

Somewhat confusingly, It says when you replace the rear upright boot liner, to tuck the cloth edging back under the rear floor section 2 ( thats the first section of boot floor from the upright section backing the rear seats).

Although it says the rear upright can come out on its own, would you rip the cloth seal if you dont take out the first section of the floor, before pulling the back out.

Despite the instructions, it sounds like it might be safer and easy to get the vertical part out and replaced, with the boot floor at the back removed first?

And am I correct one just unscrews the 2 boot floor netting anchors?

FE3F2673-B8E4-454C-BC77-79AF2B405951.jpeg Sorted it.

For those who want to know, the instructions are correct.
Pull rearwards i.e towards the tail end and down on the left hand (passenger ) side.

I must say you have to pull like hell, I was almost convinced it would snap.
Then POW!! And it came out. I expected to see some bolts yanked out, but nothing, it just sits in the groove you can just about see from the rear, when its installed.

As it was so tough coming out, I did take out the floor (just the 2 screws in the net anchors) , and would advise it. WIS says it not necessary but sure makes life a whole lot easier.
As it helps :- A) just getting the rear upright panel out, and B) when you put it back I dont see how you would tuck in the 1” wide cloth seal

Tip be careful making sure the cloth seal is projecting rearwards, its quite easy to suddenly find some has got pushed back under the lower edge .... and that would be a bitch, as you would have to pull it all out again.

Found a handy spare upright 6mm stud for my Dashcam earth ... er that was the point of going in there

I'd agree with all points that you raised, I too managed to get the panel twisted in the manner described when I first replaced it and boy was it difficult to remove.
Anyway, this is also how you gain access to the auxiliary battery.

Would be worth popping into the DIY section for reference.

2005 CL500.
Is that the back of the fuel tank (as in the W215), or is the tank below?

For the 216, it gives access to the space immediately behind the rear seat back, which seems to be full of electrical gear, including the auxiliary battery. I don't recall seeing the fuel tank. I assume that it's under the floor somewhere.

Agreed, I was expecting to see the fuel tank, but couldnt.
I was intrigued to see find out what the mushroom and cream plastic tank thing is?

Something to do with the pneumatics for the rear head rests maybe.

Yep seems logical. Always wondered how they worked.
Nearly forgot them when zi put in the rear dashcam. Luckily spotted it, or they would have smashed that off well and truly :)
