Very common on Citroen Picassos due to the discs cooling.A couple of years ago it was a well recorded fact that a british made car, ( I think it was a Vauxhall made car but I would not swear to it) had the habbit of rolling away even if the hand brake was applied correctly.
There was a design fault and it was a recall jobbie but I did not hear of drivers being prosecuted for it.

If the car is rolling backwards I wouldn't attempt to get out unless you are rolling back over a cliff or into something similarly fatal. I would keep the belt on and sit it out as you would be more likely to fall and get run over, East 17 anyone?
My son was belted in the back of my ex's car when she went back into the house, came back out and the car had rolled down the drive and hit the neighbours wall, because he was strapped in he was fine just a little shaken up.
