Are the seals a stealer part only, How difficult is it to replace the seals? I'm not sure where these seals are - I'll have to do some more research on the HP pump

No the seals aren't too hard to replace. Just more fiddly TBH. You can get a full rebuild kit for the Bosch CP1 kit for about £20.

There is a thread on here somewhere about how to do it...I did mine a few weeks ago.

Some perhaps useful documents linked here, and here, serpentine belt removal (like said much easier to work if fans hround and belt removed) here.

I've not had time to do a full write up but here are some pics that I took when replacing the fuel filter to pump pipe on my 270cdi. It might help a bit.

1. The filter to pump pipe (highlighted in red)
2. clips holding the pipe(s) in place
3. Pipe attached to the pump and showing the plastic fitting*
4. The pipe to be removed is highlighted in red and shows the route taken.
5. This shows the fuel rail sensor plug removed, which is required to get the fuel pipe threaded underneath the fuel rail.

*This is where my leak was. You can see how dirty the fitting is.

I can confirm that the pipe fittings get very brittle and I couldn't get them off without them breaking as the design is quite poor and relies on the plastic flexing to remove them.

Anyway, here they are.

Dave

Thanks this has helped a million - Happy New Year to all :p

I know I'm bumping an old thread but I'm just doing this job and I'm struggling to get the fuel line out from under the fuel pump. This is a picture of what I mean on someone else's engine. Space is very tight and it doesn't want to come free from what looks like a rubber clip - any advice?
