Hi

I have this MAF sensor on my C220 194 W202 vehicle. Do I need to clean the oil from that little hole? I need to just spay cleaner on the tip sensor, is that on both sides?

Thanks

The sensor part is the wire, and it looks clean to me

had a full service done of tranny last week, there was no metal particles..the oil was little black though.it starts fine and moves away fine.suddenly enigine Raves when she try to reaches at 3rd gear.then suddenly car gets heavy.if i stop the car for few minutes it gets damn fine.then suddenly ghost comes back and start haunting her again:(.'''My engine has been playing up a bit, surging when cold in the morning, occasional misfire. Chief suspect (and cheapest to investigate) was the MAF, cleaning it would certainly do no harm.''')thats the same porblem i am having also with engine in your words.

Yes any car with the 722.6 box can go into the limp home mode,, what happens is, if the engine power is down owing to the MAF being faulty giving incorrect fueling or just worn out, then the gearbox does not know what to do and can end up locking in second gear

hey

hey malcom there is possibility due to faulty MAF my w210 is in limp mode. And wont allow to shift in 3rd gear..and engine gets heavy too...and when the engine is cold its drives perfect...are these the symptoms of faulty MAF or something else?you think diagnostic will find the root cause of the problem?:(
kind regards,
Andy

Great thread - just had full MB sevice and took the car away and felt not pulling as well as before - was then snowed in for 5 weeks and couldnt get out to use the car much. Had a fright when tring to overtake at 50mph she just crept up even with foot to the floor E320 CDI - normally your head would be pinned to the headrest. Went back to MB and they say after being on the computer that it needs a £79 - part (something that has failed - it allows the turbo to work) from reading this thread sounds like MAF I think although he said something like transponder valve or something - said it would take 20mins to fit. Just makes me wonder if when they changed the air filter at the service they did something to the MAF which caused the loss of power\performance also mpg. Am going tomorrow and will make sure I test the car before paying for it.
Thanks again
;)

A diesel
That sounds like the turbo wastegate transducer. Check all the vacuum pipes are connected and the electrical connection as well.

Part was £79 +vat and charged me £35 for computer check and fitting = total £134 -

Feel free to point out any glaring mistakes I made while doing this :)

My engine has been playing up a bit, surging when cold in the morning, occasional misfire. Chief suspect (and cheapest to investigate) was the MAF, cleaning it would certainly do no harm. So heres what I did:

First, open the bonnet (duh!). The MAF can be found exiting the air filter box for the engine. On mine (300TD) its on the offside of the engine bay, at the front. You can see a small electrical plug attached to the air intake.

1) Remove the plug

2) Unclip the air filter box

3) Undo the MAF from the hose by unscrewing the Jubilee clip.

4) Remove the MAF from the air filter box, using a philips screwdriver (2 screws, 1 is hidden slightly) Once the screws are undone, you have to tug quite forcibly to pull the MAF away from the filter box. There is a large O-ring between the two, once separated check the O-ring to see if its in good condition. If its a bit knackered, get a replacement.

Cheers for that, most informative
