Hi Guys,
New member here, feel free to point me in the right direction or let me know if I break any forum rules etc.
I am looking for a replacement gearbox for a 1996 420, 4.8L Auto 4 speed. It is for a friend and customer who is in West Africa (so is the car) and the general google search is not bringing anything up.
Can you offer any advice on where to go, who to approach for this?
With a bit of organisation I could get the gearbox back here on a temporary import for repair before shipping back.
Or is this gearbox shared with any other vehicle models that I should also be searching?
Cheers for the help,

Search for the car on EPC , personally I like the one at Nemigaparts.com , helps if you can get VIN number to correctly identify the car , that will show you want gearbox options were fitted to that car and part numbers , will help the search .
There is a 722.427 4 speed auto box from a C250 diésel on that auction site at the minute , but you’ll need to do some digging to find out if it’ll fit, I’m having the same issue with my CLK at the minute, unable to source the correct box and hitting a brick wall for info on what box’s will fit to keep the thing moving whilst I repair the original.
You may have more luck, taking the box out and bringing here to repair and taking back and refitting

C250 diesel one won't work as the shift points will be all wrong.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the replies, I tried to reply yesterday but could not log in from my phone and then a busy family day in the sun took over.
I'll have a look at EPC, I have the VIN # as he sent me the original Registration document, I've either got to learn technical German or start typing in to Google translate to see what all the data is on it.
I also did a quick search on Autotrader to see if I could pick up a donor vehicle but there is only 1 at £25K.
Cheers for the help, I'll post what success I have.
