Having looked for pics/video on the web for clues on removing the centre speaker grille I've then tried to prise it out, windscreen end of the grille, but it really doesn't want to come up, almost as if it's held in the middle. From pics it should have lugs on the straight side above the air vents that then get pulled out with the front rounded end free from the dash, no sign of any other clips. I'm afraid to keep prising only to bend the metal, has anyone on the forum removed this grille successfully ?

Yes have removed on a w219 and like the video it just pulls up - but very stiff. Worth getting some trim removal tools. Definitely worth upgrading the speaker because the MB is pants. Really improved the volume and quality of telephone calls and vocals on music.
