Does anyone have any details on how to remove the fuel sending unit in a W208 CLK as I am getting incorrect readings on my fuel gauge on the dashboard, and will need to check it out.?
Thanks

Hi,
I believe there are 2 sender units in your car so you will need to be sure which one is duff. It has been known on 202's and 208's (probably others) that low quality fuel can cause erractic fuel gauge operation, try a tank full of branded fuel and run some injector cleaner through as well as this cures mine everytime.

Andy in his post above has a very good point, and it has worked well on other cars, Do try a few tank fulls before diving in the deep end.

I can still help if needed

Thats very interesting as I first got the issue after filling my tank from empty at a Sainsburys Petrol station. I have read that there can be an issue with dodgy fuel, some say that the cheaper fuel sometimes has too much sulphur which can damage the contacts on the fuel sender unit.? Is this true do you think ? I have put in some injector cleaner and I will wait an see what happens.
So far the behaviour has been a bit random but with a slight improvement. The fuel needle on the dash when I first turn the car on would sometimes rise straight away, but sometimes not and only after about 30 secs. However in the last 2 days the needle has risen to full straight away and I have a full tank of fuel.! so fingers crossed it will go down now with usage !
I know I get about 300 miles on my full tank as its mostly town trips and I will check when I get to 150 miles that the needle is about half.

You mentioned that you said good fuel and injector cleaner cures your problem every time, is it that common and do you notice you only get a problem with cheap fuel (supermatket fuels etc)>?

As per my reply I will give the car a trial and see if good fuel works with the fuel injector cleaner etc....

I would still like some info though on the location of the sender unit in the tank on my car? Thanks

We will always have for and against for super market fuel, I use it with no problem, others will not.

With your fault do try some 98ron or some injector cleaner, they are all good, and from memory all that had your fault have cured the problem this way, this is why I did not have the documents already printed off

Thanks Television, It looks like the tank has to be lowered? or do you know if the sensors can be accessed without dropping the tank from the inside of the car?

There could be access panels in the car under the seat, I cannot say for sure until I look it up
