They were a bit different back then…I once put £10 of petrol into my virtually empty (old school) diesel Astra. It started no problem & drove 4 or 5 miles home without problem. The following morning it refused to start. It was only cos I had receipt that I knew what I'd done. I drained the tank & put a gallon of diesel in .... it started! I brimmed the tank & had no further problems.

but diesel is the lub for the fuel pump. If it's just petrol in a diesel, the the pump fails & then costs ££££££££££££££s.You can add petrol to diesel. This lads added diesel to petrol. Big no no.

Maybe old car pre unleaded days. They had larger filler opening.^^^ This
There's no way you can get a diesel nozzle into an unleaded petrol filler "orifice".
Curious to hear how the OP managed this ?

If you put diesel in a petrol, it just won't run.
