Hi Malcolm, I can remove the headlights without taking the bumper off, it is the lenses I want to remove from the lamp body.;)

I have some facelift w210 Xenon lamps and want to swap the innards over to my lamps, the lenses are clipped and bonded on to the body of the lamp and hopefully someone has a good method of removal without causing damage. :D

First post having just got a 1997 E300TD Estate Avantewhatever... yesterday:cool:

Most headlight lenses are fitted with a heat bonded glue that will allow you to split them if you heat them up (130c) for about 10 mins in the oven.

I've done lots of cars this way but not a merc, so Caveat Emptor!

In the oven for 10 mins at 100 deg C works ok for Toyota plastic lights, so could be succesful for Mercedes.

Could you get one from a scrapyard to have a practice on ?

Since I was told about that, I have so far received 249 bollockings for using the dishwasher inappropriately!

But it was worth it every time, just look how clean your aluminium parts are now :D :D :D

Generally, washer bottles, expansion tanks, rear light units on the Maestro... One day, I'm going to walk in to breakfast and find my egg cup somehow replaced by a side repeater unit!

Well, dont use it for the air filter....you might go to bed just to find a black box there......

I used to use my mums cooker for doing motorcycle chains......grease in the oven, lay the chain in it, heat until melted and bake at gas mark 3 for 15 minutes..... but DO REMEMBER HEAT MAKES THINGS GROW IN VOLUME...and let it cool down before removing [Health and Safety issue-you need to do a risk assessment to compare burning risk with injury risk from mother if you drop it..]

Dishwasher was good for cleaning alloy wheels too.

All jokes aside if you have a workshop an old washer in there works wonders.....
