Hi

I need to replace my fuel tank on my 2004 SL55 R230, but I can't find any diy or instuctions for this. I guess it would be easy enough, but I rather read something up first.

If anyone can help, that would be great.

Hi Mark

The baffle has completely come away, and is now floating all over the place and interfering with the fuel level sensor.

The tank actually sits on top of the car, thus comes away from the top, with roof half cocked open.

I just need a link to some instructions, or write up.

The thread above is quite confusing, but I think some people have had some success in fishing out the offending part ?

It's a full days work, not for the faint hearted, A lift is a massive help, so much trim to remove, I hate doing them and have probably done 15-20 of them!!!

I have most of the trim off already.

Would you mind listing how to do it, why would you need to have a lift, the tank is in the boot and lift out upwards.

Isn't there anything underneath to disconnect, e.g. fuel pipe?

If anyone has a PDF procedure guide or something, it would really be helpful.

The Mercedes Workshop Information System (WIS) might have some guidance on this. Mercedes only make WIS available to their dealers and some others in the motor trade, so you would need to find someone with access to WIS prepared to print off the relevant worksheets and send them to you. Not sure if they are pdf-able. I do not know of anyone doing this DIY in the 5 years I have been on this forum. Could be wrong, but as Colin says, this is not a job I would contemplate without a lift.

Alternatively, keep trying the internet, the Americans in particular are very good at posting up information about this kind of thing.

From what I understand the entire rear suspension needs to come out.

Not a small job by any means.

Membership of the official Mercedes-Benz Club includes access to WIS.

I can take a look at WIS tonight if the OP is still wanting this.
