well i think ill have to put the idea on hold for now. focus is going to need work for the MOT due in a few weeks (welding due to a previous owner damaging the sill with a jack) so i could be looking for a replacement car once its tested, as i really HATE having to continuously weld cars up for MOT.

I used to worry about this and that and what car i could get if i saved a bit more or the right one came up but the fact is if money's an issue you don't want to be going near a second car, let alone a self build one!

Just accept the focus for what it is, it may be "slow" but i'm sure it's fast enough to get you and your family around safely and that's all that matters, 20 years ago it would have been thought of as fast and that's the problem, it's all relative and once you get a quicker car after 1 month that will feel slow again.

IMHO If you're bored there's plenty of hobbies you can take up from the internet which are far more likely to impress an employer/ be a productive use of time and free/very cheap..learn an instrument? learn a language?

If nmoney's tight why spend more?

You might buy a modern classic that needs simple love & care, get one not needing tax and when you get bored, sell it you might make a penny or two which you can go and spend on another!! Loads of MGBs, sprites, spitfires etc which are really simple to work on - avoid bodywork like the plague.
