Got my renewal quote from AA insurance.Increased by £200.
After lots of surfing only quote that was lower was RAC.
Rang AA, after lots of BS they gave me a new lower quote. When I told them that this was still not good enough they said "hang on a minute, we'll try another system" WTF???
Came back with another offer that was only £8 more than RAC and I could get a year's single use recovery cover for £30. Much cheaper than getting separate recovery. If I do need to use it I can always sign up for a full year when needed.
Was £170 cheaper than their original quote. Money grabbing barstewards. All insurance companies are the same.

I've just renewed mine, up from £495 last year to £770. I do mine through A Plan brokers, they shopped around and couldn't find anything comparable that was significantly cheaper, I've been with the same company (AGM) for many years, and while I've not done anything to test them, the broker assures me they're the best he deals with. No claims, 20 years NCD, 4000 miles a year and a clean licence, but I'm over 70 and by their standards its a "performance car". According to the media, most people are paying a lot more now for their insurance, but how are others on here with 500s, C63s and the like faring?

Edit, I should have mentioned that the Company's original renewal quote was £1170, it took a visit, a lot of discussion and a few compromises to get it down to £770. The only real concession I made was to agree to an increased excess, £500 up from just £100, and even the new figure is quite reasonable by today's standards, I've heard of excesses in the £thousands on "performance" cars.

Bank of Scotland wanted to double mine. So I shopped around ended up with aviva.
Car insurance today is like a cartel. Not helped by lights, bumpers ect comming in at a grand or more a time. Its an all round racket.

I'm of a similar age and only live down the road from you Rob.
I was quoted £700 70 for a £54k W213 E63. 10yrs NCD and 4k miles a year.
6 months ago I was being quoted just over £500. Its increased massively lately.
A Plan were over £200 more than any comparison website for my S204.

Have you looked at any comparison websites?

Previous was £361, renewal £485....

Best comparison site? £606. It'll be staying at LV thank you very much!

In our capitalist society that promotes competition I thought companies working together to manipulate market prices was illegal.
How else can all the companies be working this on us?

Try RAC and AA online. It might be cheaper, or a lot more expensive. Depends on how much business the computer has done this month I recon.

Not sure how true this is, but I've been told that prices go up as you get nearer to the end date on your current policy.
They do, they assume you’re a risk taker if you leave it right to the last minute to renew

etting a firm offer, revisit later and the quote will have gone up. They assume that as you've come back you can't get a decent quote elsewhere and think they have you over a barrel. Especially true for holiday insurance in my experience.

Finally got to the bottom of the technical difficulties with LV.
Our multi car policy has increased (well there's a surprise) by £271.39, suppose that's better than some i have heard with their premiums doubling.
Decided to visit a few comparison sites, some were cheaper, but it means going with 4 different insurers, can't be bothered with that. Still that's 4 cars sorted. Now for the next 4, can't wait.

Mercedes w218 CLS63 AMG now gone, RR Velar
I’ve been with Admiral for the last 5 years, my cls63 was £560/y , I’ve sold the merc and put the velar on the policy, renewal is due in couple of days and, surprise: £2671 …that’s absolutely insane !!!! I’ve tried Adrian flux with all the bla, bla, bla : best deal on the market, forums member, dash cam etc : 40 minutes on the phone on hold, online more than 24 hours to receive an email stating I have to call them for the best deal which was: £2600 …absolutely a joke !!! Finally I insured the s***y velar for £1402/y with a different company

Cheapest £3,600 Yikes! renewal comes in next month, more than likely I shoulf need to go wth that..... Comparison sites are a bit precarious for me as the questions never quite seem to fit my scenario and so I end up with certain sites stating that they can't give me a quote based on the information provided..... very frustrating...

I foresee a country full of cars that are too expensive to keep, but impossible to sell.

How did insuring a car become so complicated anyway?
Do you have a UK licence?
How long have you had the licence?
Trying to navigate various declarations regarding changes to a vehicle is a nuisance. Some don't worry about tow bars, some don't list it in their changes to body, but flippin' sure they would show concern come a claim.

After filling in all details on a comparison site when transferring to the insurance provider not all information is translated over. By the time you update their site the company can no longer provide an online quote, that means you must ring, and go through it all again, and likely get a ****** silly quote at the other side of that.

Gawd help you if you miss something.
I only noticed on my LV renewal (far too expensive to take) that Mrs Me hasn't been insured for her commute this last 12 months.

Is it just an age thing where the world just seems so unnecessarily complicated?

Yes, yes and yes to most of the above M80... Gazillion years driving, no mods, only 2 straightforward mishaps (flood, cement pillar:geek:).

It only started to get complicated for me when they stopped disclosing contact numbers so you could ring up like a normal person.. You could get away with things when the software was simpler albeit an endless number of questions. I remember even being asked about smoking habits. With the recent advent of simplicity (cutting corners ahem ahem), I feel the software is too sophisticated, and the human element of getting the questions right and few in number to cater for the permutations and combinations, not. Chat bots are also a nightmare... although refreshingly great on some sites... Personally, I think online quotes for insurance (any) are too reductionist.

I think my issue is down to a gap in insurance and complex living arrangments,....
