In the top right of the engine bay, I have what looks like a loose vacuum connection. Firstly, is it actually part of the vacuum system? Secondly, do the two parts pictured fit together because I can't make them (hose is too small for male part) or do I need a connecting sleeve? I don't remember damaging these things while working on the car but maybe my elbow did some damage without me knowing.

The second photo shows where that hose goes to but it doesn't really add to the context of my question. The down pipe/hose is what leads back to the male part of photo one.

I would appreciate any help.

Thank you.

I do not have a ML270 CDI.
Next time you start the car, cover the end of the pipe with your finger, do you feel any vacuum or change. Do the same with the other pipe.

I've sussed it. What I thought was male was in fact female lol

The brown bit of pipe in the second photo is covered with a sleeve and when the sleeve is pulled back far enough it exposed the brown pipe at the other end and it is that which slots into the first photo.

That's a relief. Now I just need to find where one connector lives (another post I've made on this forum) and I'm happy.

Thanks for your reply
