We recently did took on a new taxi firm as they were having trouble with their current garage, local to us. I have never seen such bodgery in my life, rear main oil seals fitted incorrectly, holes in rocker cover, snapped bolts but this takes the biscuit. DIY furniture bolts holding down the camshaft carrier.

This kind of thing is one reason i do ALL my own ,that and cost.never walked yet .unless I set out to do so.
However makers are flat out with efforts to make this more and more difficult .and thats why I wont be buying another new or euro 5 and above car..

Some seals today come with the seal run and yr not supposed to separate esp front ,rear crank seals u use a stepped installer to drive it in CAREFULLY.another example of over complication .tho this design does eliminate issues of wear ,grooved seal run areas.

As time goes on I find myself.spending more and more time machining up tools to do jobs benz and others have engineered to be more and more difficult for owners to do for themselves.
This is deliberate efforts from makers to force us into dealers .even engineering ones own way around that costs us money.!

I really hate this industry sometimes. Its people like this which means people like me and Ian get tarred with the bodgery brush.

If workmanship like this was made a criminal offence, because it is fraudulent, then I swear it would cut it out.

Would tend to disagree.

Its a shoddy back street garage who have no clue, let alone profesional statndars what the are doing and they clearly dont know that dealers exist for correct parts but would happily go in the tool box at home and use some spare ikea bolts that they clearly didnt fit to a furniture item.

Seriously though - it's absolutely disgraceful and never mind name n shame - tar and feathers springs to mind!
