I usually jump between AXA and aviva with my van insurance, only this year haggled with Aviva to get same price as Axa as they had a more straight forward thinking with regards to fitting extra rear seats in my Van in the near future and just found out today they are going to waive the £350 excess over replacing my lost van keys as a goodwill gesture:D £197 this year for my van fully compo

Ive heard something like this mentioned about insurance in republic of Ireland recently, I think its called duel pricing from what I can remember. Apparently the UK is going to outlaw this practice in next year and some politicians are calling for the same practice to be outlawed in Republic of Ireland. Duel pricing is where insurance companies gather information on you and use it to charge you an amount which they think you will pay.
P.S. Sorry Jim, just seen your post above which you have explained it already.

No Problem Kev.. it has been referred to the EU Court's now, alongside a raft of other "questional insurance practices " here in the republic. And this after it was raised by the Central Bank, who are in charge of regulating the so called " Insurance Industry". Like I said legalised scamming. The liability laws here have closed as many businesses as Covid has. Woman leaving her workplace, slips on wet leave's on the ground, fractures ankle, is awarded €75'000. One of our TD's ( Members of Parliament ) while on a night out, decides to sit on a swing, while holding a drink in each hand, falls off and seeks €60'000 for injurys received in the fall. And the list goes on and on...

Yes she was dragged over the coals for that one by the public voters, parliamentary parties and rightly so, Cant mind if she lost her Dail seat? Absolutely shameful the practises of the insurance industry in Ireland lately Jim. When I was driving a digger or ADT more regularly at end of last year and start of this year I heard a lot of horror stories on the Joe Duffy radio show of how many businesses had to pull the shutters down amid insurance premiums rising three fold. Sadly Creches were among the highest casualty rate leaving many working parents with nowhere to leave their children during working hours.

Yes, the creches were very badly hit. I think that the Gov't had to step in with subsidies at one stage, instead of tackling the problem head on. Go after the fraudsters and the legal eagles. And then cap the awards given by judge's...27000 euro for whiplash

yeah compo claims were astonishing amounts. One kid at a creche cut its finger and parents sued for 16,000 Euro:shock: Needed couple of stitches at most from what I remember with no lasting effects:rolleyes:

Nice to see you back again Conor !!! ( or maybe you were back sooner, but I didn't see any of your posts?? )
Absolutely ridiculous awards......Like I said earlier, insurance rates are closing more businesses than Covid. And all the Govt are doing is commissioning reports .....but not acting on them...too much collusion between the "Concerned Partys "

I think from what i remember the government were shying away from the problem because if they do anything drastic the risk was the big players in the Irish insurance market will pull out as they are all Big UK companies and leave most of the country high and dry with no cover. Tail wagging the dog here I think with the Banks, Insurance Big wigs and legal establishment all in control
