I've fixed a rattle caused by a loose piece of air intake pipe that was making my car sound like a tractor at 1500rpm with a single cable tie.

I LOVE CABLE TIES.

Yep - heartily agree.

My car toolbox has a variety of them - including the type that will undo - along with string and elastic bands.
All Mercs need string and elastic to keep them going!

I have a huge collection of them in the garage but I’m so tight I try to re-use them.

They were used to tie down my Christmas reindeer this year, gutted though I had to cut two of them.

Cable ties are great but nothing beats a bit of No.8......

I have them as standard items on Christmas and birthday lists.

very useful in Australia in the breeding season -- magpies attack anyone that goes near their nest (and they are nasty buggers - not like the cute European version)

You're not wrong there! Was dive bombed by one of the little barstools as I was cycling from Surfers to Nerang back in 1991. Little barsteward drew blood as well. I found a full water bottle squirted at them worked quite well.. And if the bottle was empty the bike pump waved at them had the desired effect....

Well done!

We've got a cash n carry warehouse nearby and whenever we go there I can't resist sticking one or two packets of cable ties in the basket. I have an old Dexion rack and they're all hanging one there... and a cable tie is often a lot cheaper than a stealer investigation and repair!

We used to fly model planes in park where the old F1 Circuit was in Adelaide and they would always attack the planes if we went too close to their nesting area.........

We moved to Brissie and they were just as bad....school boy lost his eye about 5 years ago when he got attacked by one...

Yeah they're little sods. Worst thing is you can't get revenge with an air rifle as the little buggers are protected.

It's amazing how much quieter it has made the engine over all the rev range. I guess the air pipe must have amplified the rattle.

Depending upon where you use them and the type you need to be careful with them breaking down with UV light. After a year or so they can get pretty brittle a lot of them aren't particularly UV stable
