........before my neighbours lynch me or set fire to my SLK!!! I recently became the very proud owner of a gorgeous red SLK....lucky me you might think.....I did too, until the alarm started going off at all hours of the day and night.....!!!!! 3 am this morning..and the worse thing.........IT WON'T DISARM.....if I'm lucky it'll go for about 5 mins............if not.............about 20 mins and there is nothing I can do!!! I was given a red key but no-one at the garage I bought the car from knows what it's for....I'm presuming (hoping and praying) it's some sort of device for manually disarming the alarm....but can see no-where to shove it (ooerrrr!!!).......CAN ANYONE HELP ME????????????

You should also have a small black key as well. The red small key is used by the dealer to programme more black keys if you should lose them.I would check the sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensors mounted at the windscreen pilars. You need to remove a blanking plug from the sensor and look inside the sensor and you will see a crosshead screw anti clockwise to make it less sensitive.
Or it could be that the central locking pump mounted in the boot is full of water.

It does seem to only play up when I've been in the boot for something....have avoided using the boot the last few days and (touch wood) everything has been hunky dory. Thanks for the advice, I'll get my b/f to give it a go.....!!!

Red or black key is for switching off the system in an emergency, the keyhole in the slk is usually (dealer fitted) in the glove box, look around the edge for a 1cm slot in a circular holder, or inside the glovebox at the back. Mind you it really could be fitted anywhere depending on the dealer / fitter, also check both kick panels for the slot. Both keys do the same job, but the red one also allows you to program more black ones (keep it safe at home somewhere).

Back to your problem, I dont think the above keys will help in this case, my money is on the siren which has its own back up battery, the terminals have a habit of corroding which makes the siren think someone has cut its wires, therefore it sounds regardless of what you do (until its rechargable battery runs out or the connection is temporarily remade)

Had this problem with my C220 and Television was spot on. Drop in Battery Voltage. Got new battery and it was ok after that. Unfortunatly due to a faulty control unit the problem came back after a week as soon as the new battery dropped in voltage. might be worth having the battery checked.

Hi all

Still think its the siren as it seems the alarm cannot be stopped once it starts via the remote, if it had triggered due to sensors / boot switch / battery voltage then it should still switch off via the remote.

We used to change loads of them, had to chuck the old ones in a bucket of water to shut them up, and to stop the other techs from going mental with the noise.

Thanks for all your advice.....don't want to come across as a dumb woman......but any pointers as to where the siren and the battery back up live? My previous car was a C3....more space than engine under the bonnet....I haven't even found the bonnet release on this one yet!!

Problem appears to be fixed.....located the siren and gave it a huge dose of WD40 and it has been silent for nearly 2 weeks....!! Another plus is that my insurance company have FINALLY acknowledged that I have an approved tracking device fitted and have confirmed I'm now insured for theft.....!! No refund of the premium I paid for the period of time during which they refused to cover me for theft though - no surprise there!

Thanks to you all for your tips and advice.
