Hey Nick, do you know where the ECU is located in my 2001 W203? I cleaned the Airmass sensor, all the ductings and the area near the camshaft sensor and this alone has done a lot of help but I still need to find the ECU and clean it, together with replacing the parts you mentioned to avoid furter leaks. Thanks

Looking from the front of the car, under the bonnet, its located under the plastic cover next to the servo on the left (drivers side uk) and fits against the lefthand bulkhead. When i removed mine no oil was present. If you change the magnet yourself it can be a right whatsit as the thermostat housing stops it coming off, so you have to take out the front plug in the magnet first and remove the centre bolt. Let me know if you need more detailed info if you decide to change the magnet yourself.

Hi Nick, many thanks. Got the 3 parts from the place you recommended today and will look into changing it when engine has cooled and if I run into problems I will come back to you. Cheers EJ

The problem area is when you try to remove the magnet. The thermostat housing small top outlet prevents you from removing this unless you remove the plug and the part that fits onto the camshaft first, thats why you have to buy the new plastic plug. All MB needed to do was position the top outlet a little either way and this would have been a simple job (MB can be right so and so's).

A big Thank you

To all who came to my rescue, thank you again. For the benefit of others with a similar problem, "engine RMP hunting at start specially when cold, going through O2 sensors like once a year or more and or Air Mass Sensor failure", I managed to change the camshaft sensor relatively easily, put in a new plug, installed a new cable extenxion, cleaned (with carburator cleaner) all relevant plugs, AMS and ECU (hard to get to) and this morning the car behaved very well. Fingers crossed. All this so far at a cost of £60 verses the initial price of £3000 given to me by MB Brighton. The advice from the guys on this forum has been priceless. If anypone has the same problem, please contact me and I will fill you in with the details. EJ
