to the mem's 210 on Monday.
I went to Click-on-Tyres in Shipley, West Yorks. I think I got a very good deal on price for Nankang SV2 XLs, fitted for £336.
I have to say, regardless of price, the service was thoroughly professional and well worth the short trip there and back.

I have no hesitation in recommending this firm to all the members. They have a website, will send tyres to where you live, and will be mobile-fitting as well soon. As usual, I get no kick-back, just the satisfaction of seing a job well done and wishing it on others here.

As for the tyres, they replaced the 3mm tread-left Pirelli P7's/Cinturatos, which have done 29000 miles. The difference in grip is noticeable, but not huge in these mild conditions.
I'm sure when the temperature really drops and the rain and or snow buckets down, the difference will be more dramatic.

Put my winter wheels on over the weekend. Nokian WGR2s still have 6 mm tread after 10k miles. Rear summer Bridgestones down to 3-4 mm tread in similar mileage :(

    Hi,

I also took the plunge and had M and S tyres fitted.£185.00 including vat for two Kumho 225/45 R17 94v XL. These were to replace the Summer tread Kumhos which were down to the wear limiters.

Up to now no issues with additional noise or lack of grip.;)

    Cheers

Arrived today for my E250 W212 a set of alloy winter wheels and tyres. These are down from 18" to 17" because I have AMG brakes.

    Wheels are Alutec Design-B
Tyres are Vredestein Wintrac Extreme 245/45/17 v90
    Use original bolts

    No increased insurance

    £1265 including Next Day delivery

Just a quick question on winter tyres chaps.

I replaced my alloys earlier this year for some new 18" ones. I've still got the old, scuffed 17" rims that came off the car which I plan on putting winter tyres on. The tyre already on the rims are 225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear.
I'm finding it hard to find a winter tyre to fit the rears but someone told me to just put the same tyre size all around. Is this possible? Am I able to fit a 225/45/17 winter tyre to the same rim that would normally have a 245/40/17 summer tyre on it?

    Regards,

    Ian

    here's the rub malcolm

I don't think the Pirellis are as good as the Avon ZV5s I had on the mem's other 210 before I swapped it for my S-class. That's probably why they have lasted 29,000 miles.
I do rotate them every 6k or so, that helps a lot with even-ing wear all-round.( not dinner jackets)

I only had 16000 out of my Kumho 19s on the S-class before they were down to 3mm.
I don't like tackling the winter season with 3mm of tread. That's asking for trouble with our rainfall up here.

My Nokians are poised to be fitted for the 3rd winter (17K) with 6mm tread remaining on all
four. Grip & braking has been excellent.

Your user manual has a chart that will give you this answer.

I fitted the winter tyres to the VW last weekend, better grip already as it's been very cold round these parts recently (plus the old front's were in the legal limit)

Excellent. With all these people fitting winter tyres, we're guaranteed a mild and snow-free winter.

I have a set of replacement all-seasons (Vredestein Quatrac 3) waiting to go on mine when the current tyres (Hankook Optimo 4s) get too low (currently 4mm after 26000 miles, sorry Malcolm) or if it starts snowing. I bought the Quatracs a few weeks ago from Oponeo, and they've gone up £15 each since then...

I had the sv2's on my old w203 c320 petrol, had them for 3 years and worked very well! wet grip lets them down a bit but a excellent budge tyre nonetheless. Didn't get stuck once - your wont be dissapointed!
