I want to change them from the silver/red colour to the red/orange type. I can get the parts easily on the internet but I don't know how you change tail lights. Is it any easy job?

I may also consider changing the front indicator lights from silver to orange as well.

Thanks guys.

Usualy you go behind the boot lining unclip the bulb holder and theres two or three bolts to undo, then they lift off.
Make sure you get a really good seal when you fit the new ones, and you may need to swap orange indicator bulbs for clear ones.

Thank you. What kind of seal should I use?

There will be a seal already there. You might be well advised to replace it with a new one from MB.

Hi whitenemesis, I thought the other poster was referring to a sealant (adhesives)?

That's not how I read it. One must make sure the light unit is seated properly and the body seal is fitted well. I would get a new seal, the old one may be hard/brittle with age and the new light unit may not sit flush?

Are body seals easy to come across? I know a guy called Carl who could probably send me one.

I have never found the seals to be bad on a 98 car, mine are perfect, they were on my 99 320SL.

Some folk get the special paint to re colour the lamps

Hi Television, what are seals exactly? I thought swapping tail lights over would just be a case of taking the old ones out and just replacing them with the new ones?

Here is a link as well to the kind I am thinking of getting!

In essence it is just that but of the sake of a £5 why risk water ingress?

Virtually no one changes these seals as they never see daylight or sunlight, even on cars where there are known leaks one does not change them in most cases.

My seals are as new on my 140 the same year as yours

Calumcco....Seals are like a foam/rubber gasket that fits all round between the light unit and the car body to stop water getting in.

Fitting those lamps on Ebay is just dating you car as they are for the older model:confused::confused:

True, but I don't like the red and white style lights, I prefer the red, orange and white style lamps. :D

Most people update there cars by fitting clear side repeaters and a orange bulb
But you seem to prefer to go back to old style.
As prev said by television .
But just shows we all have different tastes .

Hi mate what are side repeaters ?
Personally I hate the white and red lights, I think they look so bland. Would it look odd to have the red and orange light lamps on a silver model?
