Hi all,

Just curious about why this is happening with my '84 500SEC.

First car drives very well etc. but every now and again revs drop from approx. 770 to about 450 and the oil needle drops to 2/3s and flickers slightly for a few seconds. Car remains very smooth etc.. When revs are at 770 revs the oil needle is at 3/3 etc.??

Only happens every now and again? Any ideas?

Thanks.

I would have checked item 152,its known for doing such things as they become dry jointed. Leave the engine running and give it a knock or tap it.

Sorry it is the over voltage protection relay, they cause your problems on the 123,124 also your 126. This can always be checked with a volt meter to see that the ECU's are recieving the full 12v

Idle dropping

Further to Malcolms answer, the idle speed and oil pressure are related. The faster the engine revs the higher the oil pressure. So dont worry about oil pressure and concentrate on the idle speed problem
