Idle speed question on 1989 300TE

My warm idle speed drops from 700 rpm (in Park gear) to
like 550 rpm when in gear.
Have changed injectors, spark plugs, cleaned idle valve, replaced
two small rubber hoses that go to the valve.
The engine does not die but idle speed is too low.
I live in San Antonio, Texas and it is like 95F here, so at such
low idle speed with A/C, radio etc all on, it is hard on the alternator.
Any ideas or suggestions??

Barry, the 'box can't take power from the engine at much higher revs than that without damage. My Sl is the same, idles in neutral at about 750, in D at about 550. Even then, there is a noticeable tranfser when going from N to D. As it idled at about 1500 before I sorted out the idle control valve, it wasn't controllable at manouevering speeds, and shifting from N to D was like blasting off in a rocket.
You could goose up the idle about another hundred revs, but I wouldn't push it any further than that. The adjuster is down on the throttle linkage somewhere, but I've never seen one on your model, so best to check it yourself. The alternative, is switch as much kit off as you can at idle. At least you haven't got the heated rear screen on as well.

260e, 300e we have. all idle at 1200 cold, 750ish when hot, 600ish when hot in gear.

If it aint broke dont fix it....
